Please\u00a0shoot (or request that your camera operator shoots) the footage in the codec, frame size, and frame rate you plan to master to.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Or\u00a0shoot in one of these 3 formats:<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1. AVC-INTRA\u00a060i 29.97 fps, (not progressive, not 60 frames) MXF<br \/>\n2. DNxHD 29.97 (except any 4444 flavor) MXF<br \/>\n3.\u00a0ProRes\u00a029.97\u00a0(no 4444 resolutions) MOV in a Mac environment.<br \/>\n<\/span>Shooting any H264 format\u00a0internally,\u00a0can double or triple the time needed to make the deadline\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and get the necessary sleep to work with a clear head.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Panasonic cameras shoot &gt; DVCPRO-HD 60i 29.97 fps, (not progressive, not 60 frames)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Sony cameras shoot &gt; 60i 29.97 fps XDCAM <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">35 or 50 Mbps<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(not progressive, not 60 frames)<br \/>\n-Canon C100 or C300 shoot 29.97 fps AVCHD or MXF with PCM audio 48k<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Canon 5D or 7D make sure you have the latest firmware to shoot 29.97 fps.<br \/>\n&#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/philipbloom.net\/blog\/magician\/\" target=\"_blank\">More shooting tips\u00a0here<\/a><br \/>\nIf your camera does not support recording to an I-frame\u00a0codec, use\u00a0video recorders (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aja.com\/en\/products\/ki-pro\" target=\"_blank\">KiPro<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.videodevices.com\/products\/portable-video-recorders\/pix240i\" target=\"_blank\">PIX 240<\/a> etc.)<br \/>\n&#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.editspecialists.com\/blog\/index.php\/storage\/\" target=\"_blank\">Zero your flash media before important shoots!<\/a><br \/>\n<b>With multiple camera&#8217;s,\u00a0you are responsible for delivering matching shots, this can\u2019t be left to be \u201cfixed in post\u201d.<br \/>\n<\/b><strong>4K tips:<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Use tripod or use advanced optical stabilization.<br \/>\n-Interviews &gt;aperture at least 2 stops closed, make sure focus is NOT too shallow!<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Check focus by using the digital punch in feature on most camera&#8217;s, or the biggest possible monitor.<br \/>\n-When shooting 4K cropped for 2 HD angles, k<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">eep ISO down and light well. A noisy image when cropped looks even worse. Plus the noise is bigger.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>AUDIO<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Monitor audio using headphones during the shoot.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Microphone placement is everything. The one spot that sounds best may also create mouth noises that a windscreen can&#8217;t cure. Putting the microphone farther down the chest can cause severe rumble from the chest cavity and stomach, and let too much room noise into the balance of direct- to-room sound.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Center the microphone on your talent as much as possible.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Do not hide the microphone under clothes, it will create muffled sound and rustling noises.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Multi-cam shoot<br \/>\n-Coordinate the rolls\u00a0of all camera\u2019s and audio recorders!<br \/>\n<\/strong>Everybody starts &amp; stops at the same time.\u00a0This greatly reduces the time you have to spend in post trying to figure out what belongs to what.<br \/>\nBob the editor:\u00a0<em>\u201dPlease no starting and stopping at will, you\u2019ll create hundreds of files per shoot that I have to\u00a0find and organize in post\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>-Use a good\u00a0common audio source on all camera\u2019s\u00a0&amp;\u00a0recorders.<br \/>\n<\/strong>Use the best mic possible to facilitate automated waveform syncing and make sure those mics \u201chear\u201d the same source.<br \/>\n<strong>-Use Time-of-day FREE RUN on all sources.<br \/>\n<\/strong>With time-of-day, anyone on set can look at their watch and make a performance note or any other comment that will be useful and time saving later in the edit room. Make sure every device is set to Free Run.<br \/>\n<strong>-Use the strongest shooter for the b-roll.<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Albert Maysles:\u00a0\u201dGetting b-roll in a verite situation is tricky, you have to be quick to grab the right shots to make a scene editable\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>-All cameras: Use fixed White balance, not automatic, not preset.<\/strong><br \/>\n-Spend one minute getting a good balance, using a white card,\u00a0all cameras,\u00a0in the room where you do your shots.<br \/>\n<strong>-Use the same brand and type<\/strong> (no mixing of DSLR and video cameras)<br \/>\n<strong>-Use the same frame size and frame rate.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>-If possible jam sync the timecode to time of day for easy logging.<br \/>\n-When shooting double system: LOG AUDIO FILES!!!! \u00a0<\/strong>If it\u2019s got no picture, tell the editor\u00a0what it matches to \u2013 the editor\u00a0wasn\u2019t there when you shot it, and can only tell what it is, by playing it in real time unless there\u00a0is a log.<strong><br \/>\n-Make sure that the reel names and timecode<\/strong> on your camera are set correctly and that they increment with each new card, tape or disc. The more information you can supply the better. DVCPRO-HD 60i 29.97 fps\u00a01280&#215;1080<br \/>\n2. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avid.com\/products\/Avid-DNxHR-and-DNxHD\" target=\"_blank\">DNxHD or DNxHR<\/a> 29.97 fps (except any 4444 flavor) 1920 x 1080<br \/>\n3.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/editspecialists.com\/DCTRAINING\/Apple_ProRes_White_Paper.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">ProRes<\/a>\u00a029.97 fps (no 4444 resolutions) 1920 x 1080<br \/>\nNo mixed format timelines, especially no H264 footage of any kind.<br \/>\n-Transcode mp3s and M4v and any other compressed format to wav 24bit 48k.<br \/>\n<\/span>-Use only the native filters and effects built into Premiere. (No free or demo versions of any plug-ins)<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-During the editorial part of the edit; do not color correct or mix the sound.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Set sound levels for screening purposes only.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Do not process or mixdown any sound or remove any original camera sound tracks. (lower volume on clips you don&#8217;t want to hear)<br \/>\n<\/span>-All titles, graphics and animations should be 4&#215;3 titlesafe within the HD 16&#215;9 frame.<br \/>\n-Titles should be an appropriate size for legibility for playback on the Web and Broadcast.<br \/>\n-Titles should be created at 90% max white. (not 90% opacity)<\/p>\n<p>We will provide a separate sound mix, color correct and HD legalizing. Depending on your editor&#8217;s skill set we can provide you with a room that has a broadcast monitor and scope for proper viewing of video levels.<\/p>\n<p><b>STILL SPECS<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scan as close to 5000 pixels, in either direction.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, if you scan a 8.5&#8243;x11&#8243; sheet of paper, it should be about 2909w x 4000h<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All images must be saved in RGB, not grayscale, CMYK or any color space other than RGB.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">File format should be either .tiff (TIFF) or .tga (Targa).<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tiff&#8217;s should be saved as 8bit, uncompressed, in PC\u00a0byte order.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This method should provide you with the most options for your needs and provide you with a solid &#8220;master&#8221; element.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>DELIVERY<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/editspecialists.com\/pr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/WNET-audio_level.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1374 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/editspecialists.com\/pr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/WNET-audio_level.jpg\" alt=\"WNET-audio_level\" width=\"127\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/editspecialists.com\/pr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/WNET-audio_level.jpg 3024w, https:\/\/editspecialists.com\/pr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/WNET-audio_level-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/editspecialists.com\/pr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/WNET-audio_level-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 127px) 100vw, 127px\" \/><\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure your segment is within the following tech specs:<br \/>\n<\/span>LUMINANCE: between 0 \u2013 100<br \/>\nGAMUT: between -20 \u2013 120<br \/>\nAUDIO: Most of the time level sits between -15 &amp; -10.<br \/>\nfilling up to -10db (occasional peak up to -8db)<\/p>\n<p><b>GFX 4&#215;3 titlesafe and at 90% white.<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Add 2 seconds of handles at the Head and Tail of the segment<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Deliver your final flattened file in one of the 3 formats discussed above.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Deliver a textless version with split audio.(separate: NAT, VO, MUSIC)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Premiere\u00a0project with consolidated media.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Clearly mark your FINAL LOCKED sequence in your project folder \u2013 make sure only <\/span><b>ONE SEQUENCE IS VISIBLE!<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Simplify your timeline to include only the clips necessary to play. Everything else must go.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Drop everything down to V1.
