If you don&#8217;t watch out when you switch to Premiere,\u00a0you&#8217;ll\u00a0become a beta tester for big corporations like Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, AVID, HP, Dell, and all the camera manufacturers. In\u00a0postproduction, there are so many moving parts, so many <a href=\"http:\/\/editspecialists.com\/pr\/index.php\/the-adobe-app-linking-workflow\/\">&#8220;improvements&#8221;<\/a> around the corner almost every month, that it&#8217;s hard for these poor corporations and their hardware and software engineers\u00a0to keep up.<br \/>\n<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">So there you are, sitting in a room trying to edit with Quicktime movies that were working\u00a0fine in the last decade, but instead of working on your edit, you&#8217;re Googling\u00a0glitches, system crashes and audio\u00a0drop\u00a0outs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Adobe\u00a0sells the creative cloud suite as if it is one interconnecting piece of software.\u00a0But\u00a0if you have Pr and Ae open at the same time you experience\u00a0lots of conflicts, stalls and crashes because\u00a0the\u00a0apps fight over the same GPU, CPU, RAM, output\u00a0card, media, metadata, media cache data base, preview files etc.\u00a0Adobe keeps adding on &#8220;features&#8221;,\u00a0keeps stacking code on code which creates tons of bugs. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.editspecialists.com\/blog\/index.php\/performance-grid\/\" target=\"_blank\">So how do you actually get work done?<\/a><br \/>\nSimple; don&#8217;t use direct linking the way it&#8217;s designed.\u00a0Use it to move metadata between apps, then\u00a0close the other app, render or export out a file and import that back into Pr. If you have to make a change, simply overwrite with\u00a0same\u00a0name\u00a0on your media drive and it will update on the Pr timeline.<br \/>\nThis is how editors worked in the past decade.\u00a0The Adobe programmers agree:<br \/>\n-With Speedgrade &amp; Premiere it is either-or\u00a0(using direct link), you share the same project, media and metadata and can only have\u00a0the Pr project\u00a0open in one app\u00a0at the same time.<br \/>\n-When you send a sequence to Audition CC2015, it creates a separate set of WAV files in a folder called &#8220;Adobe Audition Interchange&#8221;. The picture now links using &#8220;dynamic link&#8221;.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-647 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/editspecialists.com\/pr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/PS2015-GPU-warning.png\" alt=\"PS2015-GPU-warning\" width=\"418\" height=\"209\" srcset=\"https:\/\/editspecialists.com\/pr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/PS2015-GPU-warning.png 418w, https:\/\/editspecialists.com\/pr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/PS2015-GPU-warning-300x150.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 418px) 100vw, 418px\" \/>-Photoshop CC2015\u00a0programmers where given this language by marketers. Why doesn&#8217;t the message say: &#8220;The computer is too busy, please close some apps&#8221;?<br \/>\n-In Speedgrade and Ae the available VRAM is sometimes reported lower than what you have installed because the software correctly shares the GPU cores with the other open apps.<\/p>\n<p>Today as editors we wear\u00a0more hats than ever: editing, sound mixing, graphic design, rotoscoping, stabilizing, color correcting, closed captioning, subtitling, encoding for the web, and <a href=\"http:\/\/nofilmschool.com\/2015\/04\/frameio-shows-their-powerful-collaboration-platform-adds-tight-integration-fcpx\">collaborating with clients and team members inside and outside the edit room\u00a0in real time.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I finally started to understand that\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0possible to weed through all the marketing bullshit\u00a0and get back to work.
