Day 2 Sunday, April 28, 2019
Best two film I saw so far where:
Scheme Birds
A must see intimate documentary that plays as a feature film. About kids in a housing building in Jerviston Scotland.
Directed by Swedish directors ELLEN FISKE & ELEANOR HALLIN. Eleanor also did the beautiful very cinematic camera work. Hanna Lejonqvist edited and played an importand role in the narrative-like story telling, I’m sure.
Devil’s Pie — D’Angelo
By Dutch director Carine Bijlsma.
This is definitely a festival favorite. Documentary about R&B artist D’Angelo, with Dave Chapelle, Questlove, Alan Leeds and many more friends and collaborators.
His music is hard to define, there are James Brown and Sly Stone influences, Rap and R&B. All his friends are very committed to making music together, through all kinds of obstacles. The editing is unbelievably good and musical and there are the all important “rock out” moments, where you can really enjoy the music and interaction between the musicians.
Good shorts I saw:
Metronome (In Time)
I also saw:
-Blow the man down > American thriller About 2 girls in New England who have some problems with a stranger’s body they have to get rid off. Well done for debut, great score featuring 2 sea shanties.
-Aamis > A crazy Indian movie about a shy student who falls in love with a doctor and feeds her meat from his fresh meat club. He ends up serving pieces of his own flesh. Very funny and well done.
-Gully
–The Short History of the Long Road American Narrative. A fresh road movie about a young girl with her dad in VW van. Funny, moving and with unexpected turns and outcome.
–The Kill Team >American army movie
Based on the documentary of the same title that won Best Documentary at Tribeca in 2013. Dan Krauss directed with a great cast. An unusual very importand war crimes story.
