What I saw on day 7&8 May 3&4 2019

It takes a lunatic
Billy Lyon’s documentary portrait of Wynn Handman. The secret acting coach of the baby-boom generation actors, like Richard Gere, James Caan etc.
Interesting to see how broadway and theater production was once about life, literature, storytelling and diversity, instead of money making. At 96 Wynn still gives acting classses.
Today the Audience award went to Plus One narrative and Gay Chorus Deep South documentary. The runners-up were See You Yesterday, directed by Stefon Bristol, for the Narrative Audience Award and Watson, directed by Lesley Chilcott. For the documentary. Press release here.
Luce is a Long Island feature about a brilliant high schooler with a dark past. Great acting by Kelvin Harrison Jr. who was also in Gully in this festival, also fun to see Mr Orange as the dad.
Pearl feature film debut by director Elsa Amiel about a French body builder who’s perfect body builder life gets interrupted by her six year old son showing up with her ex. Really well done and a touching story in an unusual environment.
